No fewer than eleven persons have allegedly been killed by armed men suspected to be warlords residents of Inikiri Effium Community on Wednesday.
According to report, unknown gunmen invaded Inikiri Effium Community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
LEADERSHIP stated that the people of Effium and Ezza Effium Communities in the same Local Government, have been at daggers-drawn since January 2021. A situation that has led to loss of lives and destruction of property worth billions of Naira.
As a result of the intensity of the skirmishes between the two communities, soldiers who were deployed to the community for peacekeeping. Some of the soldiers, it was reported were also abducted have not been seen till date.
LEADERSHIP gathered that victims of the attack included children between the ages of 2 and 12 years. The report also stated that pregnant women were massacred by the gunmen who invaded the community.
A resident of the area, Pastor Freeman Nwonu told LEADERSHIP that the assailants invaded the community at about 2 pm. They shot sporadically till 6 pm without a challenge from the soldiers stationed in the area.
Nwonu also stated that a Health Centre built for the Community by an international organization was razed down. He maintained that about 30 residential houses were touched during the invasion.
The Police Command is yet to issue a statement on the incident.
