The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has debunked insinuations from the opposition parties that it tend to turn Nigeria into a one-party State.
But clearing the air of such thought, the National Secretary of APC, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, said the ruling party has no such plan. He, however, stated that while the leaders of the party will not turn Nigeria into a one-party state, they will to build the party to continue to winning elections in the country.
Bashiru made this clarification on Monday while addressing a crowd of supporters at the party secretariat in Abuja.
Recall that some party members stormed the party’s national secretariat in Abuja and passed a vote of confidence on the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. The group asked the National Chairman not to quit office as is being canvassed in some quarters.
Addressing the supporters Bashiru said, “We are not saying Nigeria should become a one-party state. But we are building a party that will win elections at all times. We are ensuring there is money to deliver on education and infrastructure.
“We are not perturbed by enemies of progress. The party will support our leader, President Tinubu, to deliver on his ’Renewed Hope’ Agenda. We remain united and committed under the leadership of our National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.”
In the same development, the National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje dismissed those saying that Nigeria is becoming a one party state.
According to him, some individuals are afraid of the efforts the party is making.
“They are so afraid because we are consolidating. They are so afraid all over the country because we are receiving new entrants into our party. That is creating fears in their minds.
“They are already eyeing 2027, but at that time, there is no vacancy. Only our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will, Insha-Allah, continue as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The National Chairman therefore, urged the APC supporters to ignore what he described as African magic drama.
Ganduje said, “We understand what they are doing. It is a political drama. What they are doing is African magic drama in order to convey a failed program and projects by failed politicians. We will not allow them to continue with that.”
