The police in Ekiti State have arrested a set of twins; Taiwo and Kehinde Olasoji and two others identified as Funke Afolayan and Nnaji Aroh. The four persons were arrested for burglary and receiving stolen goods.
This was contained in a statement by the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Adeniran Akinwale. He pointed that the twins were arrested on April 25 “while attempting to break into a shop at Mathew Street, Odo-Ado, Ado Ekiti.
The CP, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, said that “during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the crime.
“They further stated that they were responsible for burgling three shops in Fayemi Market at Agric Olope, Ado Ekiti. Where they carted away two bags of rice, two bags of beans and other valuables valued at N936,750.
“Further investigation by the Command’s Rapid Response Squad led to the arrest of one Afolayan Funke and Nnaji Benignus Aroh. The twins had claimed the two suspects had been receiving stolen properties from them.”
The statement, however, quoted the Commissioner as saying that “the suspects will be arraigned accordingly.”
Recall that the Commissioner had on March 25 paraded some suspects at the Command Headquarters. Those paraded included a burglary suspect who burgled a store at the Ekiti Airport on March 7. And stole some iron rods.
“Upon the receipt of the information, the Command’s Rapid Response Squad swung into action. 18 lengths of 12mm iron rods valued at N261,000 were found in the possession of the arrested suspect.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime. He further said that he had been previously involved in stealing numerous iron rods from the site.”
The Commissioner, however, implored all residents in the State to be security conscious. He urged them to be vigilant and report any untoward incident or happening observed in their locality to the nearest police station.
