The Kano State Police Command on Tuesday paraded three notorious fraudsters, after recovering the sum of N129,542,823,000:00 billion fake currencies from them.
According to the police, the trio of Nura Ibrahim (26) of Sharada Quarters, Kano, Mohammed Muktar (35) of Hotoro Quarters, Kano, and Ahmad Abdullahi (30) of Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, were arrested at different times and locations. Their arrest followed a tip off by a good Samaritan on the nefarious activities of the suspected criminals.
The police stated that the arrest of Ibrahim on December 1, 2024, led to the arrest of Mohammed and Ahmed.
It was revealed that Ahmed who hails from Borno State is the ring leader of the gang. And they have been terrorizing residents of Kano metropolis for so long.
Following credible information received from a good Samaritan on the activities of a notorious fraudster around Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Salman Dogo Garba directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Gwale Division Kano, SP Abdurrahim Adamu to lead a team of detectives and ensure the arrest of the criminals.
Further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, Mohammed Muktar, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said.
“Discreet investigation conducted at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Ahmad Abdullahi. It was revealed that he relocated from Kaga in Borno State to Hotoro Quarters, in Kano.
“During the course of the investigation, counterfeit currencies equivalent to a total sum of N129,542,823,000:00 were recovered from them. The currencies description are as follows: $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, N1,443,000, all discovered to be fake currencies,” Kiyawa said.
The spokesperson added that suspects will be charged to court for prosecution upon completion of the investigation.
