The Imo State Police Command has reinforced the ban on the use of motorcycles as a means of transportation within the Imo State capital city. This is even as the Command warned the general public to adhere to the directives.
This was contained in a press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer ASP Henry Okoye.
According the to release, the order takes immediate effect. It also warned that any violator of the directive will be arrested and their motorcycles impounded.
Okoye noted that the measure is part of the ongoing efforts by the State Government to enhance security and reduce crime within the metropolis.
The PPRO also hinted that the ban is specifically aimed at curbing criminal activities which he said have been facilitated by the use of motorcycles.
In addition to curbing criminal activities, Okoye pointed out that the measure seeks to alleviate traffic congestion within the city. He emphasized that it would fostering a safer and more efficient environment for all road users.
As a result thereof, the Imo State Police Command, urged all residents and motorcyclists to comply with the law. It warned that police operatives will continue to strictly enforce the ban. And that violators will face appropriate legal action.
He said, “Citizens are encouraged to support these efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone.”
