The President General of Nunya Development Union, Chief Moses Ogbonna has refuted media reports of killings of five cattle herders in Nunya community.
Ogbonna who spoke to IVNTVNEWS via telephone chat stated that such incident never occurred in Nunya. He described the news report as misleading and an effort by mischief makers to create fear in the mind of the people.
According to him, contrary to the widely reported killing incident, nothing of such occurred in Nunya in Isuikwuato LGA of Abia State.
Recall that some online news media including Isuikwuato Voice Newspaper had reported that the Commissioner of Police Abia State, CP Danladi Isa and his entourage visited Lokpanta Cattle Market in Munneochi LGA and Eziama-Nunya in Isuikwuato LGA of Abia State. The Commissioner was in the communities for on-the-spot assessment following the recent attack on 7 youths. With one badly injured and 65 missing cattle by yet-to-be identified assailants in the aforementioned communities.
The report also added that to expedite actions, the Command in collaboration with local guards from Sarki Hausa, has successfully recovered 56 of the missing cattle. While intensive operations are in progress to track down the remaining cattle and apprehend the assailants.
However, Ogbonna has refuted the reports and maintained that nothing of such incident occurred in Nunya community of Isuikwuato.
He said, “Following up on this viral video, we have confirmed with the Sarki of the herdsmen at Lokpanta by the name Mallam Inusa. He told us that the killing of the five members of the Hausa community, took place at Lokpanta, in Umunneochi LGA.
“Inusa told me that nothing of such is connected to Nunya community in Isuikwuato.
“He also informed us that the culprits had been arrested by the Police.
The PG, therefore, described the video in circulation and news reports as truly misleading. He said they are calculated attempts by mischief makers to instill unnecessary fears and anxiety in the minds of the people of Nunya community.
“You know, this is a tweeting and texting generation. That constantly exposes itself to popular culture and mass media. The result is that misinformation and fake news are commonplace. And this ultimately shapes realities in ways not conducive to general well-being. It’s sad,” he said.
Ogbonna, therefore, urged the general public to discountenance the story as such incident never took place in Nunya.
He described Nunya and Isuikwuato as a peaceable community that are accommodating to visitors.
