The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, has listed the Agege and Surulere Local Government Areas of Lagos State as the most unhealthy places to live.
This the Agency said is because the quality of air in these areas is the most hazardous and very unhealthy for human beings.
This was revealed by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency in its Air Quality Index report for October 2024. The report was shared on LASEPA verified X page on Tuesday.
The Agency noted that while the current air quality in some parts of the State may fall below optimal standards, it reassured Lagos residents of its ongoing efforts to improve the city’s air conditions.
According to the report, Agege recorded the worst air quality with a hazardous rating of 103 per cent. By the rating, the Agency stated that area has a severe pollution level harmful to public health.
Surulere came second with a “very unhealthy” rating of 76.1 per cent. While Mushin and LAMATA Kosefe registered air quality ratings of 47.3 per cent and 46 per cent. The air quality in these areas was classified as unhealthy.
The report stated that Lekki emerged as the area with the cleanest air, boasting a good air quality rating of 10.1 per cent. Though the LASEPA’s own site recorded an even lower score of 7.6 per cent, it was categorized as good air quality.
According to LASEPA, the Air Quality Index is a tool designed to inform the public about the levels of air pollution and its potential health effects.
While warning residents of the risks, the agency highlighted the importance of the index in monitoring and managing environmental health hazards.

5. Lagos Port, Apapa – 36.4 per cent, unhealthy
6. Badagry – 23.8 per cent, unhealthy for sensitive groups
7. Moloney Street – 20.7 per cent, unhealthy for sensitive groups8. Egbeda – 15.7 per cent, moderate
9. NIMET Oshodi – 14.1 per cent, moderate
10. General Hospital Ikeja – 12.6 per cent, moderate
11. LSDPC Estate, Lagos Island – 12.1 per cent, moderate
12. Lekki – 10.1 per cent, good air quality
13. LASEPA – 7.6 per cent, good air quality
LASEPA, therefore, emphasized its commitment to reducing air pollution in Lagos.
It also urged residents of the State to be mindful of air quality reports and the associated health warnings.
