The Northeast leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have thrown their support behind the Party’s Governors Forum decision to end the ongoing national leadership crisis in the party.
IVNTV NEWS recalls that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governors Forum, on Tuesday, annulled the suspensions of some National Working Committee, NWC, members. The Forum decided that all members should maintain the status quo.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed.
Mohammed had arranged a meeting between the two factions of NWC. And following the meeting Mohammed announced that the feud in the party was over.
He noted that operations of the party had returned to normal under Damagum. The Forum Chairman stated that every member should return to status quo until the PDP Governors and other party bodies meet to address all outstanding issues.
In a related development leaders of the PDP in the Northeast met with the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed in Bauchi on Wednesday.
Speaking its meeting, the Zonal Working Committee and States Chairman of the Northeast expressed confidence Governors Forum. They stated that the move taken will help stabilize the party and strengthen its future.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the leaders also commended the PDP Governors for their infrastructural developmental efforts. They reaffirmed the party’s role as a beacon of hope for addressing Nigeria’s current challenges.
The communique was presented to journalists at the Zonal office of the party in Bauchi, by the Chairman of the Gombe State PDP, Tahir Shehu. He noted that the meeting which was well attended, deliberated extensively on how to move the party forward.
It reads, “As regards the National Chairmanship tussle, the meeting wishes to align itself with the position of the Governors, the BOT, National Assembly Caucus and all the major critical stakeholders in the zone.”
The Northeast Zonal Leaders also expressed optimism that the decision will bring decorum and sanity that will lead the party to lofty heights.
Shehu added that the meeting also reflected on the 16 years of the party at the helm of affairs as a ruling party. And how it lost out to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2015.
The party noted that the All Progressives Congress, APC administration has caused severe hardship for many Nigerians. It also expressed regret that, despite this suffering, no proactive steps are being taken to address the situation.
The meeting asserted that the PDP remains the last hope for Nigerians. It stated that only the PDP can provide the solutions needed to tackle the country’s current challenges.
They also highlighted that, since the establishment of democratic rule in 1999, the party has maintained a strong presence in the region. The zone has produced a former Vice President, as well as current and past Governors and National Chairmen.
The leaders, therefore, passed a vote of confidence in the Governors of Adamawa, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri; Bauchi, Bala Mohammed; and Taraba, Agbu Kefas. They commended their performance and encouraged them to continue delivering the benefits of democracy to the people of the region and Nigeria as a whole.
