Conflicting reports in the two major online publication platforms have left readers confused on the story of the abduction of passengers travelling in a popular transport company, GOD IS GOOD MOTORS on Saturday.

PUNCH reports that Rivers State Police Command stated that it had intensified a manhunt for the gunmen who kidnapped passengers travelling in a ‘God is Good Motor’ bus from Abuja to Port Harcourt.

According to the report, the passengers were on their way to Port Harcourt from Abuja when the gunmen accosted the bus in Eleme in Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State on Saturday evening.

It reported that the gunmen, after forcing the driver to a stop, reportedly shot into the sky to scare them before abducting all passengers and taking them into the bush.

PUNCH stated that the spokesperson for Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident to its correspondent.

It stated, “When contacted on Sunday afternoon, Iringe-Koko said four of the passengers had been rescued.

“Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, said immediately after the incident was reported, the Command deployed its tactical units to ensure the early release of the travellers and apprehend the kidnappers.

Vanguard quoted her to say, “We are aware of the incident, and the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Mustapha, immediately deployed his tactical teams and anti-kidnap unit to the scene.

“That deployment has yielded results already as four of the victims have been rescued. And the CP has ordered a manhunt to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators to make them face justice.

“The four rescued victims have reunited with their families. We are hopeful that before long, others will be rescued as our men are giving g them a hot chase.”

“The state police image maker however solicited the cooperation of the public to give useful information to the police about any suspicious movements in their neighbourhood.

“She reassured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring their safety and security, saying it would leave no stone unturned in fighting crime to a standstill in the state.

But in a related report VANGUARD on Sunday quoted news release by the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.

It reported that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed the viral video. The Command stated that there were no passengers of a bus belonging to God is Good Motors (GIGM) en route to Port Harcourt that were kidnapped in Abuja.

The Command, therefore, urged the public to disregard the viral video circulating on social media on the abducted passengers.

In the statement titled “Viral Video Alleging GIGM Passengers Kidnapped in Abuja False”, the police clarified that no such incident was recorded.

“This is to clarify that there was no kidnapping incident involving GIGM passengers in Abuja. This is contrary to the video circulating on social media,” the statement read.

The FCT Police reassured residents of their commitment to ensuring safety and security. The Command provided emergency contact numbers for the FCT: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, or 07057337653.
