The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammed Matawalle has reassured the people of North West the Federal Government’s determinations to secure the country from bandits and criminals across the country.

Matawalle noted that the Government will not rest until peace is restored in the northern region and Nigeria in general.

This was contained in a statement by Director Information and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike

According to him, the Minister gave the assurance while embarking on a comprehensive security assessment tour of Sokoto State.

He stated that the tour was part of the Federal Government’s strategic efforts to address the ongoing insecurity plaguing the North-West region.

Ogubike noted that during the Minister’s visit to Gundumi village, he assured residents that the long-closed Gundumi-Isa Road would be reopened without delay.

The Minister also promised that a military camp would be established along the route to enhance security and facilitate economic activities.

“The President is fully committed to ending insecurity in Northern Nigeria. And we are here to ensure that no stone is left unturned,” Matawalle said.

“The Minister also visited Isa Local Government Area, where he urged residents to remain vigilant and collaborate with security agencies. In Turba village, he assured residents of additional military personnel deployment to reinforce security.”

Dr. Matawalle used the opportunity of the visit to commend troops at the Forward Operating Base in Sabon Birni. He praised them for their resilience and dedication, promising prompt attention to their welfare and logistical needs.

Addressing the residents of Sabon Birni, the Minister appealed to the local community to support the military. He also urged them to always offer prayers for troops defending the nation.

The Minister also announced plans to establish a military base between Sabon Birni and Tsamaye to enhance regional security.

Furthermore, the Honourable Minister also visited villages affected by banditry. These included Hawan Duro and Mai Lalle. There, he promised additional military personnel deployment and assurances for displaced residents to return home.

In Goronyo LGA, Dr. Matawalle reiterated the Federal Government’s determination to establish military camps along critical routes. He also acknowledged Sokoto State Government’s support to the fight against bandits in the State.

According to Ogubike, the Minister throughout the tour, emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to restoring peace and security across Northern Nigeria.

“He expressed appreciation for military personnel’s sacrifices, urging communities to cooperate with security agencies.

The Minister stated that Federal Government remains resolute in restoring peace in the North-West. He noted that Government would push additional troops to the area and build new military bases bringing hope for a future free from banditry.

“The Honourable Minister of State was accompanied by the Sokoto State Deputy Governor, top government officials and military officers,” Ogubike said.
