The Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, has stated that there is no factions in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The Governor’s stand is coming in amidst of barrage of crisis that have rocked the party since the 2023 presidential elections.
Recall also that the party on Thursday suspended its acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
But speaking after a visit to the Governor at the Government House, Bauchi, on Friday, by the party’s embattled National Chairman, Mohammed, said there was no faction in the party.
Damagum had on Friday led PDP Chairmen from the Northeast on a visit to the Governor in Bauchi
IVNTV NEWS recalls that Damagum was reportedly suspended by a faction of the PDP’s National Working Committee, NWC,on Thursday. He was suspended along with National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu due to alleged disloyalty and anti-party activities.
But in a dramatic form, a Federal High Court in Abuja restrained the National Executive Committee, NEC, and Board of Trustees, BoT, of PDP, from removing Umar Damagum as the acting national chairman of the party.
Justice Peter Lifu on Friday ordered that no person other than Damagum should be recognized as PDP National Chairman until the party’s national convention scheduled for December 2025.
But speaking after a closed-door meeting with the PDP stakeholders in Bauchi, Governor Mohammed dispelled rumours of factions in the party. This is even as he maintained that the party remained intact and would resolve its internal crisis amicably.
“I would say that we have met and discussed these situations extensively with the acting National Chairman. And we have agreed to work together along with other party organs. These are the BOT, members of the PDP Governors’ Forum, caucuses of the Senate and the House. We have to resolve all these issues and that is the major takeaway of this visit.
“We will deepen stake holding and collaboration. So, that all these issues that are disparaging the members of the party will be resolved and nipped in the bud.”
“We have decided that henceforth, we will not allow a gap. And we will make sure that we resolve all these issues.
“We are not recognizing any faction, we are together as a body. And definitely, at the end of the day, we will resolve all issues,” the Governor said.
Mohammed, however, assured that the PDP is actively working towards resolving internal issues through collaboration among key party stakeholders.
He said, “However, the final decision does not rest on me alone. But on other members who are stakeholders within the PDP Governors’ Forum, and the Board of Trustees (BOT). Also the caucus, and other high-ranking party members.
Mohammed further stated that consultations with his fellow PDP Governors are ongoing. As it will determine the next steps.
“This has been a productive outing. And I am assured that the party will come together to resolve all contending issues. We have agreed, in the presence of other stakeholders, that we will do whatever it takes to restore the party’s glory. So, it can achieve victory in the 2027 elections,” Mohammed said of the meeting.
