Former Governor of Kwara State and former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki has described the just concluded Local Government elections in the State as a sham.

Saraki stated that it is a shame that the 16 Local Government Areas in Kwara State now have Chairmen and Councillors who would be in office without legitimacy and the people’s mandate.

The former Senate President stated this following the declaration of candidates of the All Progressives Congress as winners of the election by Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWSIEC.

The Chairman of the KWSIEC, Baba Okanla, had on Saturday announced the results Local Government election results.

He stated that the APC candidates won all 16 Local Government Area chairmanship positions. The party also secured all 193 Councillorship seats in the State.

But reacting the results, Saraki in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, discredited the election. He stated that the Kwara people have sent a clear signal to the State Government that it has not made any significant, positive impact on their lives after 64 months in office.

According to the former Governor, the people mobilized themselves to the polling units for Saturday’s Local Government election. But met the absence of electoral officials and shoddy preparations by the electoral body.

Saraki, however, hailed the people for standing firm against what he described as deliberately concocted frustrations.

He said, “Last Saturday, in a manner that went beyond partisan consideration and gave expression to the protection of community interests, people from Kwara mobilized themselves to the polling units. And met the absence of electoral officials and shoddy preparations by the electoral body.

“Whatever results the electoral body eventually declared, our people have sent a clear signal to a government that has not made any significant, positive impact on their lives after 64 months in office. It is a shame that the 16 Local Government Areas now have Chairmen and Councillors who would be in office without legitimacy and people’s mandate.”
