Tragedy struck at Iyekhe Community of Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West LGA of Edo State, as a man identified as Odion allegedly killed his elder brother over family property inheritance.
According to news report, the ugly incident occurred when Odion allegedly shot his elder brother identified as Braimah Rasheed.
An eye witness account stated that Odion, was also killed by a mob following the incident.
Before the incident, Odion, it was reported had been threatening to kill his brother following disagreements over family affairs. And it had to do with inheritance.
According to the source the crux of the matter was Odion’s younger brother who travelled to Italy, committed an offence and was jailed. Efforts to get their jailed brother have proved abortive. However, Odion accused his senior brother of not doing enough to get him released.
“Odion had also been pressuring his elder brother to sell their late father’s house and use the money to fight for the release of their jailed brother in Italy,” the source said.
Rasheed, Odion’s senior brother was said to be a lecturer at the Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi.
On the day of his death, it was allegedly that Odion ambushed his senior brother while returning home from a relative’s burial and shot him in the head. He was said to have died on the spot.
The source maintained that after killing his brother, Odion attempted to flee the scene. But he was immediately apprehended by a mob, who beat and set him on fire.
It was also learnt that the dead body of Rasheed had since been buried according to Islamic rites.
The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, has not issued any statement in relation to the incident.
When contacted by newsmen, Yamu said he would get back, but did not.
