The Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education has reverted back to its former College of Education status. This is following the approval of the Kano State Executive Council that the institution revert to its former College of Education status.

The school, however, will maintain its degree-awarding status.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye. He stated that the decision was made to enhance educational quality and streamline management in the State’s higher education sector.

Dantiye said the move followed the decision reached at the 18th meeting of the Executive Council, held on September 18, 2024.

He noted that Council reached at the decision after extensive consultations with stakeholders. And also recommendations from a high-powered Committee tasked with reviewing the institution’s status.

Dantiye said, “The Committee raised concerns over the transition to university status of the institution. Citing risks such as the potential loss of experienced lecturers, salary disputes, and administrative challenges.

The Commissioner also noted that similar institutions nationwide have operated successfully as Colleges of Education. While offering degree programs through the “Dual Mode” system, as introduced by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCE).

According to him, this system allows institutions to maintain their core structure while expanding their academic offerings.

The Commissioner stated that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the immediate dissolution of the university’s management. With the Vice Chancellor directed to hand over to his most senior deputy.

“The Government assured that current students would not be affected, as they will continue their studies without disruption.

“Additionally, the university’s certificate will be preserved for future use. And the institution will continue to offer both its traditional courses and new degree programmes.

“This strategic decision underscores the Kano State Government’s commitment to ensuring the growth, stability, and academic excellence of its educational institutions,” Dantiye said.
