A Correctional Officer attached to the Burra Correctional Centre in Bauchi State has reportedly killed a fellow officer following a minor dispute over food.
DAILY POST reports that the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, around 2pm in Burra town, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State
The report stated that an eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous, said the deceased officer, Aliyu Abubakar Chiroma, and his colleague, Kabiru Abubakar, were known to be close friends within the correctional facility.
However, an altercation reportedly began when Chiroma brought his lunch, and Abubakar insisted on eating from it. But Chiroma’s refusal for Abubakar to partake of the food led to a heated argument between the duo.
The development was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Correctional Centre, Aminu Ahmed.
Ahmed, however, clarified that the incident occurred outside the Correctional facility.
The PRO noted that the deceased, Chiroma, hailed from Giade LGA, while the suspect, Kabiru Abubakar, is from Dass LGA. He noted that both officers were posted to Burra Correctional Centre.
Ahmed also added that the deceased’s body has been handed over to his family for burial. While the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The Bauchi State Police Command has not commented on incident by the time of this report.
