The Edo State Government has declared today, Friday, September 20, a work-free day. This is to enable workers in the State to travel to their various voting locations ahead of the Edo State governorship election on Saturday.

The announcement was contained in a statement on Thursday issued by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Joseph Eboigbe.

The off-cycle election is scheduled to take place across the state on Saturday, September 21.

Adducing reason for the announcement, the statement read, “This is to enable workers and other electorates to travel to their voting areas ahead of the 21 September governorship election in the state.

It added that, “The Government wishes everyone safe travels.

It also reassured that security measures have been put in place to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had announced that over 2.2 million voters are expected to participate in Saturday’s poll.

Ahead of the election, many political observers believe that the Edo State election is a three-horse race. That it is between the three major parties in the State; The PDP, APC and LP.

The candidates of the major parties are Asue Ighodalo of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party, LP.
