With schools in Lagos State set to resume, some parents in the State have taken to streets to protest the over 150% increase in boarding fees.

The parents who have their children in Oriwu Model College in Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Sunday het the streets with placards. They were protesting against the sudden increase of boarding fees by the Lagos State Government.

Recall that State Government had last week announced increase in the public school boarding fees from N35,000 to N100,000.

The parents engaged in a peaceful demonstration on Sunday gathered at the school gate, where they demanded the immediate reversal of the fees.

The Chairman, Parents Forum Association, PFA, Oriwu College, Kazeem Oladuni, decried the increase. He appealed to the State Ministry of Education to return to the old fees.

Oladuni stated that the increase should be reversed to enable their wards resume school.

“Our children were supposed to resume on September 9. But we received a memo that one week has been added, which expired today, September 15.

“To our surprise, another memo came out on September 13. Indicating that the boarding fees have been increased from N35,000 to N100,000

“We held a meeting with Lagos State Coordinator of PFA and resolved that the fees are outrageous. This is even as the country is passing a very difficult and hard times,” he said.
