The Abia State Government has postponed the resumption date for both public and private schools in the State for the 2024/2025 academic session to September 23.

This was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Okey Kanu, during a press briefing in Umuahia, the State Capital.

Addressing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting in Umuahia, Kanu said the resumption date of September 16, coincided with the Muslim holiday.

According to him, schools across the State will now resume on Wednesday, September 23. This is instead of Monday, September 16, originally scheduled.

The Commissioner also announced that the second batch of training for teachers would commence on September 11. The training is to end on September 20.

The exercise, he said, will be held simultaneously at three centres in State; Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia. He added that 1800 teachers are being targeted for the training.

According to him, the training was part of the ongoing transformation agenda of the current administration in the education sector.

Kanu said over 200 teachers were trained in the first batch. He added that the training was part of the protocols for school resumption.

The Commissioner further announced that the Abia State Government had granted a 90-day moratorium to owners of landed property without registration in Aba. This is afford them ample time to register their property at the old rate.
