The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have assured Nigerians of their commitment to strengthening their collaboration to protecting them against exploitation.
This was disclosed following a courtesy visit on Thursday made by the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC, Tunji Bello, to the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Olanipekun Olukoyede, at the EFCC headquarters.
Speaking during the visit, the FCCPC Chairman, Bello expressed concern over the increasing cases of arbitrary price hikes across the country. He, therefore, emphasized the need for a joint effort to address the issue.
Bello also commended the EFCC’s expertise in surveillance and investigation of corrupt cases in the country. He, therefore, sought the Commission’s support in combating these unfair trade practices.
In response, Olukoyede acknowledged the challenges faced by consumers in the country. He, however, assured the FCCPC of the EFCC’s full cooperation.
The Commission boos stressed the importance of a strong partnership between the two agencies. He stated that this would help to create a fair and equitable market for Nigerian consumers.
Both agencies also agreed to intensify their joint efforts to protect consumer rights. They vowed to bring perpetrators of economic crimes and unfair market practices to justice.
In appreciating the work ethics of the FCCPC boss, Olukoyede designated Bello as an Ambassador to the EFCC.
Recall that FCCPC last week announced its desire to engage market leaders across the country to curb the exploitative pricing of consumer goods especially food items.
