The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has wade in to resolve the lingering row between the Police Service Commission, PSC and the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.

Recall that controversy has marred the released recruitment exercise list by the PSC on June 4. However, the  released the list, which contained 10,000 successful applicants for constable and specialist cadre roles was rejected by the Nigeria Police Force.

The police, in rejecting the list, alleged that the recruitment exercise was marred by corruption and irregularities.

This was contained in a statement by the force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi.

He said, “Several names of persons purported to be names of successful candidates are those who did not even apply. And therefore, did not take part in the recruitment exercise.”

Following the weighty accusation, NPF, therefore, called for the removal of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. They accused him of misrepresenting facts on the recruitment exercise.

But reacting to the accusation, the PSC challenged the NPF to provide evidence to substantiate its claim. Which is to prove that the recruitment exercise was characterized by corruption, as alleged.

Therefore, on June 25, the PSC Head of  Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, insisted that list will not be cancelled.

He stressed that the final list of successful candidates from the recruitment would never be cancelled. He, also, insisted that the exercise was done in accordance with relevant laws.

However, while the impasse seem to be dragging the Minister of Police Affairs, has decided to resolve the row.

This was contained in a statement by the Ministry of Police Affairs spokesperson, Bolaji Kazeem on Friday.

According to him, the Minister was working to reconcile the two organizations in the row.

Kazeem also, added that the Minister would ensure that the issue does not spiral out of control.

“The Minister working underground to resolve the issue between the two organizations. He doesn’t want the matter to go out of hand,” Kazeem said.
