Palpable fears have griped the people of Borno State, following the return of terrorists attacks on the State on Saturday.
The relative peace that Borno State have enjoyed for some years running was on Saturday truncated when suicide bombers struck at the two different locations.
According to SaharaReporters the bomb attacks occurred at different locations in Mararanba, Gwoza town of the State.
The report stated that the bomber, who was later identified as a young woman in her early 20s, detonated her explosive device in the middle of the gathering. Thereby, causing chaos and destruction.
Another bomber, who disguised as a mourner, also detonated another explosive device in Gwoza LGA. This was as the people were preparing for the funeral of a victims killed in the earlier bomb strike.
In its report, the CNN stated that at least 18 people were killed and injured 48 others.
Quoting the Borno State Emergency Agency, CNN stated that the first blast hit a wedding ceremony at about 3 p.m. local time on Saturday. Then another at General Hospital Gwoza and a third at a funeral, in the same Gwoza.
According to the report, the Director General of Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Dr. Barkindo Muhammad Saidu visited the site of the blast.
Also the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, has confirmed the incident.
He stated that the victims, who were all civilians, were gathered to pay their respects to the deceased. It was when they were at the burial place that the second attack occurred.
“At least one additional person died while 16 others who were injured were rushed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, in a proactive measures to contain the attacks, the Nigerian military has declared a curfew in the Gwoza.
The curfew according to the military is to enable them sensitize the town from any further threat.
Recall that the Nigerian Army has been battling the Boko Haram terrorist group in the Borno State since 2009.
