The Kano State Police Command have revealed how it toke over the security of the main palace of the Emir of Kano. It also stated how it sacked the local hunters guarding the reinstated Lamido Sanusi II.

PREMIUM TIMES had reported how the hunters, known locally as ‘Yan Tauri’, were drawn from across the State and deployed to the palace. The move followed a rumour that Federal authorities planned to relocate Aminu Ado-Bayero amidst the Emirship tussle.

While Ado-Bayero, who was removed by the Kano State Government last month, is guarded by Federal security operatives at the Nasarawa mini palace, the entangled reinstated Sanusi Lamido is being guarded by local hunters.

According to PREMIUM TIMES the federal security operatives stormed the main Emir’s palace, Gidan Rumfa on Sunday while the huntersguards were playing card games and carrying out other activities.

However, efforts to reach the Kano State Police spokesperson, Haruna Kiyawa, on the development was not successful. But a security source at the palace told PREMIUM TIMES they have sacked the hunters.

“Did you need me to tell you that they (hunters) are no longer here? You can see it yourself; everyone has found his way”, PREMIUM TIMES quoted a police officer at the palace.

Also residents of the area that spoke to the media also confirmed that the hunters had been withdrew from the palace. They said they were withdrawn between Saturday and Sunday morning.

They, however, claimed that it was in connect to the court ruling that invalidated the reappointment of Sanusi as Emir on Thursday.

“Some of them left behind their machetes to conceal their identity. This was after they were asked to vacate the palace or face the wrath of the security agents”, one of the residents said.

Recall that the court voided Sanusi reappointment as Emir of Kano. The court also ordered the Kano State Government to halt the implementation of the Kano Emirate Council (Repeal) Law, 2024.

Delivering the judgment, Abdullahi Liman, ruled that the reappointment of Lamido Sanusi was null and void. The judge maintained that the Government disobeyed the court’s earlier order restraining it from taking further action on the new Emirate Council Law of the State.
