No fewer than 197 personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces have been deployed for peacekeeping missions in Gambia.
This was contained in a statement on Friday by the Chief of Operations, Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Boniface Sinjen.
IVNTV NEWS gathered that the 197 troops began Pre-Deployment Training, PDT, on May 4, 2024. They were tarined at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, MLAILPKC, Jaji Kaduna State.
Speaking on the preparedness of the soldiers, Maj-Gen. Boniface stated that the personnel underwent the training in line with the commitment of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. He noted that those deployed are quality soldiers who have been trained to support international peace and security.
Sinjen, therefore, urged the personnel to respect human rights in their places of deployment. He also charged them to discharge their duties professionally, while maintaining peace in the Gambia.
He said, “You have been trained in the latest techniques and procedures for maintaining peace and stability in a complex environment. And you have been instilled with the values of discipline, respect for human rights and compassion for the people you are going out there to protect. Your mission comes at a critical time, as the Gambia faces a period of uncertainty and instability.”
