The Director General/Chief Executive, Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, has asked block makers, and cement producers to maintain standards.
The SON DG also warned building engineers to maintain standards in order to tame incidences of building collapse in the country.
Okeke gave the warnings on Thursday in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Speaking at a one-day sensitization workshop for block moulders, he said there was the need for the maintenance of standard.
The DG who was represented by the Director of Southwest, Talatu Ethan, bemoaned the rate of building collapses in the country. He noted that building collapse remains a major challenge in Nigeria’s economy . He stated that it poses a threat to the construction industry and development at large.
In his contribution, the Coordinator of SON, Ogun State office I, Engr Jerome Otene Umoru, supported the position of the DG. He, however, revealed that less than 20 industries have been duly certified to mould blocks in Ogun State.
Recall that Nigeria have continued to experience building collapses in major cities across the country.
