The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has stated that it has arrested a Reverend Sister for allegedly trafficking 38 children. This was revealed by the Edo Zonal Command of the Agency.
According to PUNCH Metro the suspect, Maryvianney Ikejimba (alias Oluchi), was arrested in Delta State. While an accomplice, one Chidera, is now at large.
The suspects had handed over the children to two orphanage homes under the guise of giving them better care.
PUNCH Metro stated that the children were handed over to the suspects by their parents at a farm community in Enugu-Awka camp by the Monastery, Ilah, in Delta State.
But acting on a tipoff, NAPTIP arrested Ikejimba while she came to the farm community apparently to recruit more children.
PUNCH reported that NAPTIP Zonal Commander in Benin, Nduka Nwanwenne, has confirmed the incident. He said the suspect was in their custody.
Speaking on the identity of the suspect, Nwanwenne said the suspect claimed to be trained in Ghana as a Rev. Sister. She also claimed that their headquarters is in the Philippines.
Nwanwenner stated that Ikejimba had came to meet the parents. She had persuaded them to allow their children to follow them to their orphanage homes. She promised them that the children would be given better care.
He maintained that the suspects had asked two of the parents to follow them to know the two orphanage homes the children would stay’.
