The 2024 Annual Heads of Conferences Summit and Conference of Africa Methodist Women’s Movement Conference is slated to hold between May 29 and June 3, 2024.
The event being hosted by Methodist Church Nigeria in Lagos, will hold at Methodist Church Nigeria, Wesley Chapel, Lekki, Lagos. It will begin on Wednesday, May 29th to end on Monday, June 3rd, 2024.
According to a press release, the event will officially kick off on Thursday, May 20, with a Holy Communion Service. The service will be conducted by the Chief Host, His Eminence, Dr. Oliver Ali-Aba, Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria.
The theme for this year’s Summit is tagged “A revitalized Methodist Movement for the transformation of Africa’s socio – political and economic landscape”.
According to the statement, the keynote address will be delivered by the General Secretary, World Methodist Council, Bishop Ivan Abrahams.
One of the key highlights of the Summit, according to statement, will be the delivery of a Public Lecture. The title for the lecture is ‘Leadership in a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous World’. It will hold on Saturday, June 1, and presented by a former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR.
On June 2, the entire Summit will be rounded off with multiple thanksgiving services on Sunday, at various select Methodist Churches throughout the Conference area.
In his words, the Chief Delegate of the Summit, the President, Africa Methodist Council and the Presiding Bishop, Methodist Church Ghana said, “It is right time for us as Christians to rise beyond our religious beliefs, in our comfort zones, and get involved in our political and economic leadership roles of our nations in order to jointly build a Godly led Continent we will all be proud of.
“Likewise, with our Women’s inclusion as a relevant movement that can effectively complement our vision for the desired transformation.
“As Methodists, we’ve challenged ourselves to take a position on how best we can create and add values. How to add values socially, politically and economically to our immediate societies. And to bring it to the front burner at this year’s Summit. To pray for peace and togetherness among nations all over the world and Africa in particular.”
According to the Chairman of the Summit Planning Committee, Rt. Rev. (Dr.) Sunday Onuoha, “this year’s Summit is expected to attract notable personalities within and outside the Methodist family. It will be led by the President, Africa Methodist Council, Most Revd. (Dr.) Kwabena Boafo and the Chairperson, AMC Women’s Movement, Bishop Purity Malinga amongst others.
“We are expecting to host over 100 delegates and speakers across the Continent in Nigeria. The duration of the Summit is for five days.
“Some of the highlights will be workshops on chosen topical issues, networking, excursion, variety night amongst others. These are put together to delight our guests and showcasing the Nigerian hospitality pedigree.”
Recall that the Heads of Conferences Summit is a gathering of Heads of Conferences from various Methodist families in Africa. They gather to fellowship, consultations and facilitating collaborations that will move the mission of God through the Methodist Movement in Africa forward. “Hence, it is not only an international program but also a spiritual gathering of the Wesleyan movement in Africa,” Onuoha said.
