The remains of the popular Nollywood actor John Odonwodo, aka Junior Pope was on Friday laid to rest at his Uwala Abaka, Ukehe, in Nsukka, Igboetiti Local Government Area of Enugu State.
According to report, the atmosphere in the quite Nsukka town was enveloped by grief and sadness. Family members, friends, as well as well-wishers were seen in grieving moods. They were all gathered to pay their last respect to the departed Junior Pope
But a striking observation by our correspondent was the absence of prominent Nollywood actors and actress at the burial ceremony. Also of note was the none presence of the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria at the funeral ceremony.
Reporting from the event our correspondent stated that thee burial rites commenced at 10 am with a commendation mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish, Ukehe. The body was also laid-in-state at his father’s compound. Family members, well-wishers, colleagues and friends were allowed to go and pay their last respect to the departed.
After the Church sermons and other funeral rites the body was moved to a private venue for internment at about 1.30 pm.
The report stated, “The atmosphere at the burial ceremony was somber. As colleagues and fans gathered to pay their final respects to the late actor.
“The late actor’s wife, Jennifer Awele couldn’t back tears. The widowed wife of the late popular actor was sighted weeping profusely at the commencement of the final funeral procession.
“Her first son, while trying to console his mother by wiping the tears off her face, equally broke down in tears.
“Unfortunately, some of the A-list actors and actresses were conspicuously absent at the funeral. Also, the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, were missing at the burial ceremony.
Recall that the 43-year-old actor died alongside four other people on April 10, after their boat capsized in Anam River. It was reported that the crew was on their way back from a movie location when their boat capsized.
