FIFA November rankings released on Thursday have exposed the consequence of unimpressive performances by the Super Eagles in the last international window. This is even as the Nigeria national team recorded the most significant drop in rankings both globally and in Africa.
According to the FIFA November rankings, the Super Eagles who are three-time African champions, plummeted from 36th to 44th globally. Meaning that the Nigerian senior team recorded an 8-place decline.
The ranking also revealed the Super Eagles dropped from its previous 1503 total points. The team’s points now stands at 1482.23.
In African teams ranking, Nigeria stands 5th behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.
In the global rankings, Argentina, maintained the top spot. It is followed by France in second and Spain in third. England and Brazil occupy fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
The surprise of the ranking is Niger. The Niger national team made the biggest leap in the rankings. Climbing nine spots to 122nd globally with the most points of 31.23.
The annual FIFA rankings reflect a busy international football calendar. This include World Cup 2026 qualifiers, AFCON 2025 matches, and Nations League fixtures.
Football analyst believe the reason for the Super Eagles poor rating cannot be far-fetched.
Recall that the Super Eagles lost to 1-2 lowly-rated Rwanda at home in Uyo. And also only managed a 1-1 draw with Benin Republic in the last phase of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers.
