The main opposition party in Abia State, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has announced the formation of a Shadow House of Assembly in the State. This is even as the party said the formation would be used to engender accountability in governance in the State.

This was disclosed by the State Chairman of the party, Abraham Amah during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia on Tuesday.

The Chairman pointed out that the member representing Obingwa East State Constituency, Solomon Akpulonu, would serve as the Speaker of the Shadow House of Assembly.

According to Amah, the PDP would write a letter to the Abia State House of Assembly in the next 48 hours. Notifying it of the formation of the Shadow House of Assembly. He, therefore, urged the Abia State House of Assembly to comply with the PDP-formed Shadow Assembly.

He said, “In line with democratic principles, we do hope that as soon the House of Assembly receives our letter, they will comply accordingly immediately.”

The Chairman also said the PDP or the opposition are not behind the current state of insecurity in the State.

He noted that the Abia PDP has also set up a reconciliation committee co-chaired by himself and Peter Aguomba. He stated that the Committee is to reconcile all aggrieved party members. And possibly bring back those who left in anger to other political parties after the 2023 polls.

The Chairman, therefore, stated that the umbrella party is repositioning to reclaim Abia State in 2027.

He said, “We are taking all these steps to return this political party to Government by 2027.”

Amah also commended the stakeholders and all members of the party in the State for keeping the faith. He, however, urged them to sustain the unity in the party.
