Following reports that a male student of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, and his girlfriend died inside a popular private lodge outside the school campus, the management of the institution have come out to debunk the report.
This is even as the head of the Public Relations Unit of the university, Ubadire Agua said all students of the institution are safe. He maintained that none of them died inside an off-campus private lodge.
But the reports which are still trending on social media, claimed that the victims were discovered dead in their private lodge. The reports are suspecting a case of food poisoning.
Also another report on the incident stated that the dog belonging to the male student was also found dead. Making strong case that the lovers might have died of food poisoning-related problem.
But responding to questions from DAILY POST on Friday, Agua confirmed that he also read the reports on social media. He stressed that reports of such incident have not been officially brought to the knowledge of the school.
Agua noted that the school has a data bank developed by the Vice Chancellor, Processor Maduebibisi Iwe where the names of genuine students of the institution are captured.
He said, “To the best of my knowledge, none of the students who live in our hostels is associated with what you are saying as of now. Our hostels are safe and our students who are using our hostel facilities are enjoying the services that we provide.
“We can account for students who live on campus. We can not confirm if the people we see on social media are truly our students. But we have a data bank of our students,” he said.
The PRO added that the lodge where the incident reportedly happened was outside the school campus. He, therefore, reiterated the University’s advice to students to be careful with whatever they do.
