The Minister, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, Nyesom Wike, has stated his readiness to distribute 50 vehicles to security agencies in the territory.
The Minister noted that vehicles are to aid the security agencies to tackle insecurity and address the issue of scavengers who have become security threats in the FCT.
Wike, however, stated that the security situation in the FCT, is currently much improved compared to the past. He pointed out that the security agents are working day and night to keep Abuja residents safe.
The Minister also mentioned that some of the beggars in the FCT, not only constitute nuisance, they also pose security risks. He revealed that some of these beggars serve as informants to kidnappers and bandits.
Wike made these disclosure during a live media parley monitored by IVNTVNEWS on Wednesday, in Abuja.
Speaking on the menace of street beggars in the FCT, Wike said: “I disagree with you that poverty is responsible. Professional begging is what is happening the FCT. We have security threats, and you make excuses for them.
“Some of them are not only informants but scavengers as well. The Committee is now working day and night.
“Next week, I will distribute 50 vehicles to security agencies to ensure the comfort and security of Abuja residents. We are providing them with the necessary support to succeed.
“We’re here to fight insecurity and to give Abuja residents the comfort they deserve. If Abuja is not safe, then forget Nigeria.”
