Musliu Akinsanya popularly called ‘MC Oluomo’ has emerged the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW. Oluomo emerged President after a consensus election held by the Union’s stakeholders and delegates.
The election took place at the Quadrennial Delegate Conference at its Zonal Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State on Saturday evening.
According to reports, four South West States, including Ogun, Lagos, Ekiti and Ondo participated in the election. This is even as the position was zoned to the region by the national body.
The conference was supervised by the acting National President of the union, Aliyu Issa-Ore. He pointed out that the NURTW Constitution provided the zone whose turn it is to produce the National President-elect. The Constitution also stated that upon the election of the President-election, he should be presented to the National Secretariat.
Issa-Ore, was represented by the Head of Finance, National Headquarters, Abuja, Adedamola Salam.
Speaking on the outcome of the election, she applauded the Southwest zone and thanked them for complying with the constitution. She also praised them for electing Akinsanya as the president.
Also elected alongside Akinsanya are Tajudeen Agbede as its Vice President Southwest and Akeem Adeosun, as trustee from the zone.
After after taking oath of office, Akinsanya urged every members of the union to allow peace reign. He, however, reiterated his commitment to unity in the union.
He said, “I have forgiven everyone that offended me. And I wished those I offended would forgive me as well. This is our union and we must be committed to its preservation. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood.”
