The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has revealed that the struggle for the control of state resources is at the root cause of the political crisis that have engulfed the State since 2023.
The Governor stated this in a statement on Sunday at the 18th anniversary celebration of Omega Power Ministries, OPM, and Chibuzor Chinyere’s 51st birthday
IVNTVNEWS recalls that Fubara and his predecessor, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, have been at loggerheads. The duo has been at each others jugular over the control of the political structure of the State.
Consequent upon that, the feud has triggered a political crisis that have polarized the State. This is even as conflicting court orders, have sustained two factions of the State House of Assembly.
Recall that in December 2023, Fubara and Wike signed an eight-point resolution to end the feud.
The peace deal was signed at the Presidential Villa in Abuja after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
It was predicated on the parties agreement to withdraw all impeachment proceedings and court cases. However, that notwithstanding, the peace deal collapsed and the crisis festers.
Commenting on the lingering political crisis, Fubara through his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, assured that State resources would be utilized judiciously for the people’s benefit.
The Governor, therefore, urged the Church for continuous prayers to stay focused and effectively serve the state’s interests, ensuring good governance and progress.
He said, “There is a reason for this crisis. And that reason is the control of the resources of Rivers State.
“Rivers State resources belong to you. And we will make sure that the resources are applied judiciously for the betterment of the State.
“What you owe us is just one thing: continue to pray for us. Let us not lose focus because we know the devil is always at war to derail people in governance.
“Continue to pray for us because what is most important is the interest of the people here. And I believe that with your prayers, we will not lose focus. The purpose of governance will be achieved in Rivers State,” Fubara said.
