This was contained in a statement on the Police X (former Twitter) handle.
It reads: “The Nigeria Police Force is aware of the incident between a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, and Hon. Alexander Ikwechegh. Which took place on October 27, 2024, in Maitama, Abuja.
“The FCT Command is actively handling the case following Mr. Abuwatseya’s official report at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters.
“The Police Force also urges the public to refrain from using the name or office of the Inspector-General of Police to intimidate others. As such actions undermine the values of impartiality that the IGP’s office upholds.”
Speaking on the incident, the cab driver, Abuwatseya, revealed that House of Representatives member, Alex Ikwechegh, bundled him to the Police Station after assaulting him at his house.
Speaking with VeryDarkMan on Monday, the driver stated that Ikwechegh called Police officers who bundled him to their station.
“After the video he called some Police officers. I don’t know the division they are assigned to. They bundled me to the station.
“They didn’t allow me to take my calls,” the driver said.
“I was taken to the IPO’s office, who spoke to him outside the office. After the call the IPO said he was going to do investigation at the honourable’s (Ikwechegh) house in Maitama.
“They kept me behind the counter for over two hours. After the IPO returned from his house, he asked me why I recorded the Reps member.
“The honourable came to the station and started calling me names. I left the station at 3:00 am and my car is still at the station,” the Uber driver said.
