Manchester United head coach, Erik ten Hag has been relieved his role as coach of the men’s first-team manager.

His sack came after poor run of form of the Man U team in the 2024/2025 season.

Announcing the sack in Monday, the club said, “We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us. And we wish him well for the future,”

Recall that Hag was appointed in April 2022 and he led the club to two domestic trophies winning. The Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

The Club added: “Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach. He will be supported by the current coaching team whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”

But reacting to the choice of Nisterlrooy, former Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, doubted the suitability of Nisterlrooy for the head coach job.

Schmeichel, speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty show, admitted he wasn’t sure about his former team-mate’s abilities as a coach.

He said: “I don’t know how good a manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is.

“But he was a very good player.

“And if he is able to replicate some of his playing form as a manager, he has a good chance of staying on.

“I don’t think Ten Hag got enough support at United,” the great goalkeeper said.
