A fierce shootout between Nigerian soldiers and bandits in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, Imo State, has left scores dead and many injured.

According to sources confirmed by The Nation, the gun battle occurred at Aba branch in Ehime Mbano on Tuesday night.

“Some non-state actors attacked and killed some soldiers in the area yesterday,” a source claimed.

“The whole place is on fire, and troops have taken over nearby communities.”

Residents fled in panic as constant shootings filled the air, creating a climate of fear and uncertainty.

“We are terrified,” said a resident, who wished to remain anonymous.

“The sound of gunfire is still echoing in our ears. We don’t know what will happen next. We are worried, Ehime used to be a serene environment, we don’t know what is happening,” The Nation reported.

However, there is no official statement from the Nigerian Police or the Military authorities in the State.

Recall that Ehime Mbano LGA has of late become a hotbed of insecurity in Imo State.

The latest shootout and killings of soldiers in the area has sparked off concerns about the escalating violence and its impact on civilians.
