The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum have stated that their recognition of Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara as leader of the party in the State is unchanged.

Recall that the PDP Governors had last week said they would support Fubara as the leader of the party in Rivers State.

The Governor and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, Nyesom Wike have been enmeshed in battle over the structure of PDP in the State.

Reacting to the statement by the Forum, Wike, had warned them to steer clear of Rivers State. This is even as he threatened to set fire in their various States. Wike warned them against supporting his estranged godson and the Governor of Rivers State.

But responding to Wike’s controversial outbursts, the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed said there is no going back on their recognition of Fubara as leader of the party in the State.

He made this disclosure while receiving the delegation of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC.

Mohammed stated that the decision of the PDP Governors Forum was in order.

Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, Mohammed added that as the number one member of the PDP in Rivers state, Governor Fubara should be allowed to have control over the party’s structure.

Mohammed revealed that the NWC delegation has supported “the decision of the PDP Governors’ Forum. He said the Forum is backing Governor Similaye Fubara as the leader of the PDP in the State.

He said, “The decision is in order and that is how it is supposed to be. Governor Fubara is the leader of the party in the State. It is along this line that we collectively agreed for the rule of law. And the delegation gave their firm commitment and support for the position of the PDP Governors Forum in Rivers State.”

“We all know the relationship between the FCT Minister and the current Governor of Rivers State. Which is that of the mentor and the mentee. We are working behind the scenes to ensure they come together. To work together in a manner that PDP is known for.

“Certainly, it is not something we can dictate here. But we have summoned the courage and the will to ensure that the correct thing is done,” Mohammed said
