The Nigerian male national team, the Super Eagles started their 2025 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifying campaign on high at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.

The Eagles defeated the Benin Republic National team 3-0 to claim victory and pocketed the three points.

The goals came off Atalanta winger, Ademola Lookman who bagged a brace. While substitute Victor Osimhen netted the third goal to give the Nigerian team the deserved victory

The Super Eagles created the better openings but a combination of wasteful finishing. The were also prevented from increasing the goal tally by good goalkeeping by the Benin Republic goal stopper.

With time running out in the first half, Lookman produced a moment of magic to give Nigeria the lead.

Osimhen netted Nigeria’s second 12 minutes from time.

Lookman completed his brace on 85 minutes to seal the well-deserved win.

Nigeria top Group D of the AFCON qualifiers with all three points from the first match of the series. Benin Republic are rooted to the bottom of the table with no point.

The Super Eagles will be away to Rwanda for their next game on Tuesday.
