Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, on Thursday said nobody can accuse him of corruption as a public office holder.
The Governor made this assertion while speaking during the Michael Okpara Leadership Lecture and Award 2024 at the Musa Yar’ Adua Centre in Abuja.
Uzodinma used the occasion of the event to advice public officeholders to live within their legitimate means. He urged them to desist from engaging in corrupt practices.
The Governor maintained that the inordinate quest for wealth, and lack of discipline, among others are responsible for the unbridled corruption in the Nigeria’s system.
The title of the lecture was, ‘Service Above Others; Lessons from the Leadership Philosophy of Michael Okpara.’
Delivering the lecture, Governor Uzodinma advocated the need for political leaders to emulate the legacy of the late Michael Okpara. He stated that there is the need to emulate the Premier of Eastern Nigeria in order to achieve a more prosperous country.
Uzodinma also revealed that the Egbema power plant which is currently undergoing rehabilitation will soon be completed. He noted that it would be commissioned in the first quarter of 2025.
He described the project as pivotal in supplying 24-hour electricity in all areas of the State.
Prominent personalities also graced the occasion. They included the Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Otu and Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Patricia Obila. The former First Lady of Nigeria, Patience Jonathan, past and serving lawmakers were also present.
