The calls by some elements for the creation of additional one State in the Southeast region of the country has been described as a mere political grandstanding.

This was disclosed by the founder and current Chairman of Board of Trustees of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Chekwas Okorie.

Okorie stated that the calls for the creation of Anioma, Orlu and Etiti States in the Southeast are legitimate, but said they are not realizable.

He noted that with the obvious and deliberate obstacles contained in the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the calls are mere political grandstanding.

Speaking on the heightened insecurity in the Southeast region, the AGPA founder described killings as generally self-inflicted and unfortunate.

Okorie noted that the Governors of the Southeast geopolitical zone are compelled to deploy scarce resources to fight insecurity. He pointed that these resources would have been used for other developmental purposes. But are now being used to combat the killing and kidnapping scourge.

Okorie, therefore, appealed to the Tinubu administration  to collaborate more with the Southeast governors to fight the criminals that perpetrate these evil acts.

He said: “I strongly believe that President Tinubu would score the bull’s eye if he summoned the political will to exercise his constitutionally guaranteed special presidential  dispensation. And direct the Minister of Justice to enter a  nolle prosequi in court in the matter of Nnamdi Kanu and other Igbo prisoners of conscience. Whose only offence is that they were agitating for the liberty and  self-determination of their people.

“The insecurity and associated disturbances in the Southeast will be largely resolved when Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is released unconditionally.”

In his reaction to “the Igbo-Must-Go campaign”, Okorie expressed gladness that many well-meaning Nigerians have condemned the campaign. He described the call as highly subversive, inciting and incendiary provocative.

Okorie, therefore, described those spearheading the campaign for the Igbo to exit from Lagos as unpatriotic elements

“However, I am worried that the response of both the Federal and Lagos State Governments to this unprovoked threat. Their response is lackadaisical and suggestive of certain levels of complicity and tolerance,” he said.

“I see no reason why President Tinubu has not demanded the resignation of his aide, Onanuga. I am not impressed by the feeble condemnation of the offensive tweets of  the sponsors of  Lagospedia.

“The Lagos State Government ought to have apprehended and prosecuted the culprits to serve as a deterrent.”
