A boat carrying over thirty-five (35) passengers on board has capsized at River Rima along the Dundaye axis in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to reports, the rescue teams who swung into action when the incident happened had recovered one body. While fifteen survivors managed to swim safely to the shore.
Some of the survivors and eyewitnesses, who commented on the mishap, stated that the boat conveying the passengers overturned due to overloading.
By the time of this report, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Search and Rescue Team, local divers, and others are still continuing in their efforts to locate the missing victims.
The passengers include the elderly, women, children, and youths who are crossing the river to their farms.
Meanwhile, the Head of Operations National Emergency Management Agency Sokoto Operations Office Aliyu Shehu Kafidangi, Special Adviser Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency Nasiru Garba, and the Red Cross have already visited the scene to profile data of the victims.
