The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, has taken delivery of yet another set of 17 locomotive driven containers for cargo transportation.
This is in continuation and consolidation of freight services launched by the Federal Ministry of Transportation in June this year.
The cargo train which arrived Lagos at about noon on Monday July 15 will depart for the Dala Inland Dry Port in Kano on Friday, July 19.
While monitoring its arrival at the Ebute Metta station in Lagos, NRC Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria described the feat as part of efforts at realizing the Federal Government’s objective of promoting the ease of doing business.
He added that the journey was made only during the daytime, to ensure the safety of the personnel and the goods.
The Nigerian Government believes the cargo haulage system will ease movement of goods from the ports to the hinterlands. While reducing not only the numbers of articulated vehicles on the roads, but averting possible mishaps.
