The Onitsha-Owerri Expressway was on Wednesday made unpassable as a result of protest by youths of Oba in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The youths were protesting the killing of a youth of the community by the Anambra State Vigilante group. The actions of the youths caused traffic gridlock as motorist were hindered from plying the road.
According to reports, the youths were protested the killing of an innocent youth on Monday night. The youths alleged that boy was killed by people alleged to be operatives of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG). Anambra Vigilante Group is popularly called Ebubeagu in the area.
The protest led to traffic gridlock on the Onitsha-Owerri Road, as trucks conveying goods and passengers were denied passage on the road.
IVNTV NEWS sited a video being circulated on social media showing the deceased body of the victim. The body was laid in an open truck at the venue of the protest.
According to the commentator, who obviously recorded the video, the youth is an indigene of Oba and a shop owner in the area. “He was in front of his shop the previous night when he was shot by the vigilante operative, unprovoked,” the voice said.
These allegations were, however, not verified as at the time of filing this report. Attempts to do so were not yet successful.
