In a frantic effort to curb the lingering food crisis in the country, the Federal Government has distributed a total of 740 trucks of rice to the 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Monday in Abuja.

Speaking to journalists at the State House, Abuja, after the 8th FEC meeting of 2024, Idris explained explained the motive behind the distribution. He said the food supply is part of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention programme to Nigerians.

Idris stated that gesture is aimed at alleviating the persisting food crisis in the country.

The Minister, however, appealed to State Governors to ensure an effective distribution of the food stuff. He said they should make sure the supply reached the people who are mostly in need of it.

Idris further explained that each State, including the FCT is given 20 trucks containing 1,200 bags of 25kg of rice.

He warned that the President has directed the Minister of Agriculture to ensure that food is made available to Nigerians.

The Minister explained that the distribution of trucks of rice was also to ensure that the hardship in the country is ameliorated. He added that it’s expected that the State Governors will distribute the trucks of rice to the most vulnerable.
