Bandits in the early morning hours of Tuesday killed a lecturer with the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State, Dr. Tiri Gyan David.

According to news report by CHANNELS TV, the lecturer was the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension, and Rural Development at the university.

An eyewitness told Channels Television on a telephone call that the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.mon Tuesday. The lecturer was attacked at his residence in the Yarima Quarters, Low-Cost Estate, Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The source added that the bandits invaded the community with sophisticated weapons, shooting sporadically to scare the residents. It added that the hoodlums also abducted two of the lecturer’s children.

The Katsina Police Command spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq, has also confirmed the incident. He stated that the Command will soon release a detailed statement about it.

Dutsinma is among the ten security frontline Local Government Areas in Katsina State grappling with insecurity. Bandits attacks the area almost on daily basis. This is despite efforts by both the State Government and security agencies to restore peace in the State.
