Germany football legend, Didi Hamann, has called out Portuguese international, Cristiano Ronaldo for crying after missing a penalty in Monday match with Slovenia.
Hamann described Ronaldo emotional outburst as “embarrassing” after the Portugal captain cried following his penalty miss against Slovenia.
Ronaldo missed a penalty kick in extra time when the Slovenian goalkeeper, Jan Oblak brilliantly saved the kick.
With the fear of Portugal loosing the match and eliminated from the tournament, Ronaldo was seen in tears at half-time in extra-time. His team-mates were seen consoling him and urging him on.
Ronaldo, however, has his team goalkeeper, Diogo Costa to thank as Portugal eventually went on to win 3-0 in a penalty shootout.
The mercurial goal tender, saved three spot-kicks, a record of any keeper in the history of the competition.
Ronaldo, however, converted his effort alongside, Bruno Fernardes and Bernard Silva.
After narrowing netting his kick, Ronald was seen apologizing to fans.
But reacting to Ronald’s behaviours, Hamann, who spoke on RTE, said: “Thirty-nine-year-old plays 120 minutes. He misses a penalty and I’ve got to say, I bought into all that ‘Ronaldo has turned into a team player. Because he needs the team more than he used to.”
“I bought into that nonsense as well. But I think he showed his true colours again tonight.
“Missing the penalty, he starts crying on the pitch. He starts crying at half-time in extra-time. And I’m thinking is ‘it all about you?
“There’s a squad of 26 players, there’s 20 staff, there’s 30 or 40,000 fans in there. It’s not about you,” Hamann said.
