President Tinubu has forwarded the names of three nominees for consideration and confirmation for appointment as Chairman, Secretary and member of the Police Service Commission (PSC).
According to reports, the names were submitted to the Senate at the resumption of a new legislative session on Thursday.
The nominees are; Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Hashim Argungu (Chairman), Chief Onyema Uche (Secretary) and Retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu (member) of the PSC respectively.
Recall that President Tinubu had earlier in June, sacked retired Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, as the Chairman.
This is even as the Commission battles the Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police Force, Kayode Egbetokun, over the NPF recruitment list.
The Commission had upon the release of the recruitment list accused the IGP of undue interference.
Following the the controversy generated by the accusation, the PSC, called on Tinubu, to sack Egbetokun.
In a related development, President Tinubu, while presenting the names of the PSC nominees, also urged the Senate to consider and confirm the nomination of Dr. Olatunji Bello for appointment, as the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Vice Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
Accepting the nomination from President Tinubu, the Senate, however, referred Bello’s nomination to the Senate Committee for Trade and Investment.
The Senator also referred the nomination of Argungu, Uche and Lankano to the Senate Committee on Police Affairs. The Committees are to report back to the Senate in one week.
