The Nigerian Police has stated its resolve to establish data centres in the 774 Local Government Areas of the country. The Force stated that the establishment of the centres is a scientific approach to tackling insecurity in the country. These, it stated include farmer-herders crises, banditry, and kidnapping.
This was contained in a statement by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The IGP stated that one of the major project of the NPF is the establishment of ‘crime data analysis’ units. This will be established in all the 774 Local Government Areas in the country.
He pointed out that analyzed data by the units, will be fed into a central computer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. This, he said, will enable the Police hierarchy to make appropriate decisions on any act capable of breaching the peace.
Egbetokun stated this during a Citizens Town hall engagement on strengthening policing in Lafia, Nasarawa State on Wednesday.
The IGP was represented at the event organized by the Ministry of Police Affairs by Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Force Intelligence Bureau, Dasuki Dalaganchi.
Speaking at the event, he said, “I am happy to announce to this gathering that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has graciously approved in conjunction with United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, the establishment of data centre in all the 774 LGAs in the country.
“We went around the whole country, including Nasarawa State, and conducted what we call crime data analysis. And we also conducted the crime- mapping of the whole 774 LGAs within the country.
