Cooking gas explosion has razed more than 100 houses in Jamata community in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to DAILY POST the explosion, which happened on Wednesday, brought down more than 100 buildings and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira.
This was even as the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Mineral Resources, Bashir Abubakar Gegu who visited the affected community lamented the wanton losses caused the incident.
The Commissioner, however, urged the residents of the community to be more careful while using the cooking gas in the homes.
Speaking to the distraught citizens, the Gegu said, “I am urging all and sundry to abide by the rules of gas usage. This accident is avoidable. But for negligence and failure to abide by the safety rules of the use of cooking gas, led to what happened.”
The Commissioner, however, assured the victims of the State Government’s immediate and long-term support. This, he said, is to enable them to get back on their feet and in their businesses.
