Police Command in Rivers State have declared an ex-leader of a militant group in the Niger Delta, Gabriel ‘General’ Asabuja wanted.

This was contained in a statement by the Rivers State Commissioner for Police Tunji Disu.

He stated this on Monday while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Recall that Asabuja was seen in a viral video making some strong comments amid the Local Government Council crisis rocking State.

The Commissioner fielding question on the programme condemned the utterances made by Asbuja.

He said, “That video caused a lot of panic in the State. It gives a lot of concern to everybody even out of the State.

“I want to assure you that we are not going to take kindly to that. And to arrest him, we have put actions in motion. We would get him at the appropriate time. We have gotten a lot of people of his kind.

“You cannot prepare a video and start firing and threatening people not to move around. And to prevent them from doing what they are expected to do in town. You expect the police will fold their hands.

“We are working towards it. We have invited him and he does not want to come. But we will do what we want to do. We are looking out for him.”

“He is wanted. That is correct,” the Rivers State Commissioner declared.

Recall that River State has been embroiled in political crises since late last year. This is coming on the heels of a fallout between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor Nyesom Wike.

The current crisis was precipitated by the appointment of Caretaker Committee Chairmen by Governor Fubara.

The tenure of the LGA Chairmen, Deputies, and Councilors ended earlier in the month. As a result, thereof, the Governor Fubara sworn in a 23 Caretaker Committee Chairmen for LGAs.

However, the move by the Governor has generated tension in the State. The ousted former Chairmen claim the Governor was wrong in his action.

As a result, there have been protests, claims, and counter-claims since then.

To prevent the break down of law and order in the State the police authorities sealed off the 23 LGAs.

The police also warned against violence by any group. It stated that stated that it is ready to deal with anyone who foments trouble in the State.
